Upcoming outing

7/17/08 Lake Minnetonka Regional Park

"Lake Minnetonka Regional Park is the perfect place for families to enjoy a Saturday afternoon. The 292-acre park has everything a kid could want on a hot summer day, including a 20,000-square-foot nautical-themed creative play area and crystal-clear swimming pond. " Sounds like our kind of place!

We'll leave our houses around 9:30 a.m. with swim gear and picnic packed. Let's hope for good weather and no repeats of last week's 60 mph winds and storm during lunch. There's a $2.00 fee per person for the swimming pond. Check this out... "The 1.75-acre upland swimming pond has a maximum depth of 6 feet and is completely surrounded by sand. The water initially comes from the lake, after which it is recirculated, filtered and chlorinated. There is a changing shelter and concession stand to serve swimmers, and beach umbrellas provide an escape from the sun."

Meet at the parking by the swimming area and we can hike the 1/8 mile walk to the fishing area, check out the fishing scene and then do a little more hiking towards the Visitor's Center. When we're good and hot, ready for lunch and a dip in the lake, we'll hike to the beach. Remember if you have little kids, bring your stroller to haul kids and your beach/lunch equipment.
